Garry has been fascinated with photography and art since his teens. After a career as an Electron Microscope technologist, he attended Ryerson University to study Photographic Arts as a mature student. After graduation, he worked in commercial photography studios in Toronto for several decades. His enjoyment of creative expression included fine-art photography, the making of exhibition kites, musical instruments, and astronomical telescopes.
Since moving to Nova Scotia in 2000, he has participated in local volunteer activities, acting as president of the Lunenburg Folk Harbour Festival for three years, helping out with the Nova Scotia Folk Art Festival and is the past president of Lunenburg Art Gallery Society.
